How to get rid of Silverfish Naturally
Silverfish are another household pest that we don't want around. They consume starches and carbohydrates and are capable of destroying book bindings, wallpaper and photos as they consume the glue found in these. They also consume linen, silk, cotton, and carpet. If you find your clothes with holes in you may think it was moths that put the hole in your clothes however silverfish can get in clothes baskets and clothing draws and may leave your clothes with holes.
So how do you get of these pesky little creatures. The conventional way to get rid of these is by using pesticides containing permethrin and deltamethrin. However these are harmful for our health and should never be in the house especially around children and animals.
Luckily like most household pests there are essential oils that silverfish don't like and are a great control for these pests.
The best oils to get rid of silverfish are Cedarwood, Cinnamon, Citrus oils (Lemon, Orange), lavender, peppermint and basil essential oils.
Silverfish lay there eggs in the cracks and crevices that you will find around your skirting boards so spray here and around any clothes baskets, book shelves and chest of draws you may have.
DIY Silverfish Spray -
250ml spray bottle
1/4 cup white vinegar or vodka
1/2 distilled or filtered water
10 drops of cinnamon oil
10 drops of cedarwood oil
10 drops or lemon or orange oil
5 drops of peppermint oil
1) Pour the vinegar or vodka into the bottle mix with the essential oils and shake.
2) Then add the essential oils and shake again.
3) Spray around affected areas.
4) Spray daily for 10 days.
5) Do not spray directly on clothes or linen.
